I'm writing about courtly love in the book Yvain, the Knight of the Lion by Chretien de Troyes.

In one scene, Yvain is stuck hiding behind a wall from soldiers searching for him, and he falls in love through a crack in the wall. In some sense, it is the same idea that one can see in the Romeo and Juliet story, and Ovid's Pyramus and thisbe story, where the lovers are stuck behind physical or unseen barriers. So my question here is, Why is this romantic theme appealing to the reader?
