This timeless Mississippi Mud Book of Days appeared with a striking Jennifer Guske cover in 1983. Designed by Joel Weinstein, it includes the usual suspects of Mud talent and features the first chapter (and appearance) of Katherine Dunn's Geek Love, selected by OCHC for its Literary Oregon, One Hundred Books, 1980-2000.

Commisioned by The Lancet (UK) to review the Australia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2003. The Lancet is an international medical journal which has a small culture section for events etc related to medicine.
My review was radically reduced for publication. This is the full unpublished text which compares sculptures by artist Patricia Piccinini to cult novel "Geek Love". First published in 1983, Geek Love predicted "designer babies", though not in a conventional sense.

One mistake I made planning for this trip is not taking enough books, or the right books, with me. I read Fluke which was appropriate in a way as we were around whales (Thanks for the book lend, Marie Lynn), but The Pope's Rhinoceros proved to be much to dense and slow for a vacation read. Margo has been trying to get me to read Geek Love for years so I started it again; but I just couldn't fall in love with this one gag novel.
