Resolved Question: 9 most important figures in USA music?
I'm taking a USA music class and I have to write a essay tonight. My teacher grades "taste" so any of these people shouldn't be there? Elvis Presley Tupac Shakur Chuck Berry Miles Davis Jimi Hendrix Bob Dylan I have six and need three more... I'm not sure if Kurt Cobain or Eminem should be there. I just need some thoughts. Also, would Biggie Smalls be on there do you think? haha no way would Journey be on it Ok, I added Muddy waters for the blues music, forgot about him. Thanks. You think Robert Johnson too? Rolling Stones/ Beatles are England. I need USA music. Also: Frank Sinatra, Bling Cosby, etc. Just need one of those white crooner singers. I haven't done had much study time for this class.. Ok, I have added Muddy Waters and Johnny Cash. I need two more for 10. Can't edit the title, suppose to be 10... Supposed* No time period, and Miles Davis is like the God of Jazz music so he needs to be on there. Also, no ignorant RAP IS RETARDS ATTEMPTING POETRY posts. If you took this class, you will see that Blues suffered the same prejudgments by white people. I need variety(Jazz, Rock, Country), not just a bunch of white pop artists. I'm only knowledgeable about classic rock and hip-hop music, so I need some country, pop, jazz, blues, etc. Also, important metal/grunge artists I should have at least one... Ok, I've reluctantly added Michael Jackson. I need one more, please list a good reason. Led Zeppelin and Bob Marley aren't USA. I debated between Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, but I think Chuck Berry was a farther step from Blues to Rock then Buddy Holly and people like John Lennon and Keith Richards put him first in influence. They are also kind of similar styles of music, but any reasons why Buddy should be there and not Chuck I'm open. Ok, I didn't realize that. Billie Holiday I think I'll add.

Voting Question: Kurt Cobain SNL sketch?
My dad was describing to me a sketch on Saturday Night Live that had Kurt Cobain and other dead musicians sitting around and there was this noise like the wind blowing through something and they couldn't figure out what it was, and it was the sound of the wind blowing through Kurt Cobain's head? Yeah, that probably sounds like gibberish, but that is how my dad described it to me. Does anyone know where I could find it online, or if it's on any of the SNL Best Of collections, so I can find it on DVD?

Resolved Question: Queen Greatest Band ever?
Queen has to sum as the greatest band ever, you got to agree. you might not say an argue against and say the beatles, but hey Queen can argue back why? As of 2005, according to The Guinness Book of World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1,322 weeks or twenty-seven years on the United Kingdom album charts; more time than any other musical act including The Beatles and Elvis Presley.[75] Also in 2005, with the release of their live album with Paul Rodgers, Queen moved into third place on the list of acts with the most aggregate time spent on the British record charts.[76] In 2006, the Greatest Hits album was found to be the United Kingdom's all-time best selling album, with sales upwards of 5,407,587 copies, over 604,295 more copies than its nearest competitor, The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Their Greatest Hits II album came in seventh with sales upwards of 3,631,321 copies.[77] One of rock's most successful, influential and popular acts, the band has released a total of eighteen number one albums, eighteen number one singles, and ten number one DVDs worldwide making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. Their total record sales have been estimated at over 300 million worldwide[78] including 32.5 million in the United States[79] alone as of 2004. The band is also the only group in which every member has composed more than one chart-topping single.[80] Also, on January 2007, it was announced that Queen's Greatest Hits I & II was the most downloaded album on iTunes in the US. Queen was very famous and is still today with most songs still play today, and they still are getting awards.. Some of the musicians that have cited the band as an influence include: Anthrax, Van Halen,[54] Ben Folds Five,[55]Blind Guardian,[56] Kurt Cobain,[57] Def Leppard,[58] Extreme,[59] The Killers,[60] Foo Fighters, Green Day,[61] Guns N' Roses,[62]Helloween,[63]Iron Maiden,[64]Judas Priest,[64]Kansas,[65] Manic Street Preachers,[66] Metallica,[67] Mika,[68] Radiohead,[69] The Smashing Pumpkins,[70][71] Styx, [72] and Katy Perry [73]; amongst others. even they influenced John lennon into his solo career with queen's song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", played in a 50s rockabilly style. so do u think Queen is greatest band ever? they were certainly the greatest live band ever. (best live gig ever was Queen's performance for Live Aid in 1985).

Voting Question: Books on Kurt Cobain?
What are the best books to read about Kurt Cobain? I know this man, when alive, didn't want all the attention he has received in death. But I feel I have a very personal connection to him now...no I don't take drugs! Resolved Question: Kurt Cobain or Eddie Vedder?

Resolved Question: Is music, lyrics and showmanship more important than perfecting vocal ability?
Some of my favorite and most influential bands have lead singers that are not considered to be great singers. Examples...Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Bon Scott (ACDC, etc... In rock music, do you believe that creativity, music, lyrics, and showmanship are more important than perfecting your vocal ability? Thanks for answering! I hope this is more easily understood than the last time I tried to post this. I'm asking because I see a lot of questions like..."Am I a good singer??? Pleas answer" Jason good points. Your answer showed me that it also matters of people's tastes. I consider singers like Layne Staley and Chris Cornell to be amazing singers, you consider Kurt Cobain to be amazing. He's definitly unique and talented. Lyrically...he is amazing.

Voting Question: Who is the worst lyricist ever ?
Kurt Cobain or Tom york ? they both suck but i don't know who was worse ... i guess Kurt Cobain takes the cake , his lyrics were just complete nonsense , not poetic at all. Yea , Tom York is ok , some of his lyrics are good , but Kurt Cobain ?? calling him a lyricist is a compliment lol "Rock Your Pants Off" first off he's the one who said his lyrics made absolutely NO SENSE , and i don't care if he makes me think as long has his lyrics sound good , and that was not the case , his lyrics were UNPOETIC and did NOT sound good at all. "Rock Your Pants Off" lol "i am the walrusss" polly wants a cracker , that's what i call " bad lyrics" , no matter how you put it , those were very uninspired lyrics. "tom1thomas1" i agree , that's terrible lol

Resolved Question: Hendrix, Lennon, Cobain?
If they had lived, which of the above would still be making a significant contribution to music. I choose Hendrix, acknowledged as a great musician, but neglected as a songwriter. I also think Kurt Cobain would still be a force to be reckoned with. I'm afraid Lennon would come last, I feel Lennon, like McCartney peaked in the 60's and I doubt would hit those heights again. What do you think? Hi 'ifsogirl', the reason I have no female stars on this list is because most of my favourite female artists (Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Aretha Franklin, Patti Smith, Grace Slick, Janis Ian...) are still alive and non of them had the cultural impact that the above 3 mentioned had.

Open Question: nirvana song???????????????????
can someone please give me ideas to writing a song similar to nirvana? i am a songwriter and it's really hard. kurt cobain wrote about many things but he was brilliant. he wrote rape me and that had to do with how a guy rapes a woman and then he goes to jail and the same thing happens to him so he pays his price and what goes around comes around. i don't know what the hell in bloom was about. some of his songs were a little hard to understand. he also wrote a song called "territorial pissings" and it was how he felt like an alien because he was alone and he felt like he was an alien to everybody. and he also said the words "cultures were opinions". meaning basically that people are responsible for their cultures. well can someone please give me ideas of what to write about? please please don't put smoke weed because i asked a question nicely and i'm hoping to get nice answers in return. you know..........answers that don't make you look like a retard

Resolved Question: Is it weird that I like Foo Fighters?
This might sound odd... I like Foo Fighters but I'm embarrassed to admit it sometimes! I can tell they have talent I like the style and I like the songs. Some people seem to think of them as a "boy band" or something with some of the looks I get. Yet a lot of those same people like Nirvana and Dave Grohl started Foo Fighters after Nirvana's Kurt Cobain died. So its like they don't like the new band the same guy is in. I know its nothing like the style of Nirvana, but its still great.
