My daughter is 4.5 and is still in preschool. However, she has started to express an interest in chapter books. She loves to be read to, and seems to be moving past the preschool picture books. We have read Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. She loved that one. I also tried Stuart Little by E. B. White, but I couldn't stand that one. I know Charlotte's Web is also by E. B. White and have considered trying that one...does anyone have any suggestions for other good chapter books to read to a rather precocious 4 year old?

Message: I repeat myself..."Home-schooling" does not equate to being "self-taught" because society in the days of Di Vinci, etc. lacked the means to educate the masses...I already told you that. Every person on that list was either taught by a private tutor because the family was rich enough to afford one or were self-taught because they had the motivation and drive to get out of the poor house their family was in and public schooling was not available. I am going to be submitting to an agency in the upcoming months. They have a website on which they post "profiles" of their clients. They post headshots and resumes. I was curious if I should copy the format of the resumes they post on their site or if I should use another format. Here is an example of one of the ones from their teen talent's resume.
If possible please look at this link for formatting example instead of the one I posted, it shows a more accurate format then the one I posted below. http://kimdawsonagency.com/Index.cfm?FuseAction=OnCameraTalentDetails&TalentID=1489&TalentDisplayID=2&TalentGenderAgeID=4&Category=Kids&scrollPos=0

Does anyone know where I can buy the movie Beyond the Prairie or other recent movies made about Laura?
I checked Amazon and couldn't find it. Was it ever released?
im 19, and im trying to make a list of books to read, i alreayd am reading the suze orman books, most of the debbie maccomber books, more nicolas sparks, biographies like stori telling, mommywood, becoming laura ingalls wilder, princess diana, but im not sure what else i should read.. i dont like that twilight and ink heart book series or anything like that- but what are some good books- also some good biographys to read too! thanks
I remember reading these books back in elementary and middle school. There's this "side" series by Roger Lea Mcbride, The Rose Years, where it describes life from Rose's view as she grows (she's Laura's daughter).
There's also this other series, and I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. What I can remember is in this other series, Rose is a young woman, and she conspires with her father Almanzo to make a special honeymoon for him and Laura at a World Fair. Laura also learns how to drive an automobile somewhere in this series. There's also quite a bit about this other family with 3 kids (2 boys and a girl). The girl is kind of a tomboy. I remember in a dinner scene where their dad brings home squirrels for dinner, and they're arguing over who gets the squirrel brains this time. I also remember that one of the boys enters his dog in a dog contest, and pretends the dog can talk by using this little toy that allows him to throw his voice (like a ventriloquist).
Does anyone know what this particular series is called, or who wrote these books?
I don't think it's any of those so far. It had pretty much nothing to do with Caroline, Charlotte, or Martha. Actually, I think I remember the main characters being those 3 little kids.
I've already checked out the Little House books website, and it didn't help.
Has nobody heard of it???
where can i get the clothes on little house on the prairie that laura ingalls wilder and nellie olsen wore?like the long skirts and long blouses,bonnets,coat/jackets
please post links i really need to know
*best answer gets 10 points a thumbs too
For a project I have to find inspirational and important 20th century female authors, so I chose Laura Ingalls Wilder, harper Lee, and aMaya Angelou. I just wanted to know what some of their accomplishments were and how they made an impact on the public/were they inspirational in any way/ and what did their writing or them as a person teach other people. I know that Harper Lee was said to be Robert E Lee's descendent - was she prejudice against slaves at the time or no, because in her story her character defends a slave. How did Maya Angelou show her activism - how was she involved, what did she do? And last, what did Laura Ingalls Wilder's stories teach people to do and were there any ways it could have inspired them? These are kind of opinions, but please give sources if you have them. Thanks so much!
I already have Laura Ingalls Wilder as one, and it's for a project I have to do in history. I figured I'd pick three, so I only need two. Who are the top two, like, most inspiratonial or popular female authors of the 20th century? Thanks!
I mean, she has a large trilogy, but that alone shouldn't do it. The books themselves are children's books that are largely unoriginal. The plots of the books aren't that great, and much of the plots are completely fabricated. What gives?
Hi, I am in 10th grade and I have a research paper due and I am doing it on Laura Ingalls Wilder. I need to narrow my topic down so I was thinking about doing it on how they survived the prairie or how they survived the winter do you have any more ideas? I also thought about doing it on her writing career any help would be appreciated! I just want to make sure that I have a topic that is more specific. Thank you=)
I would like to know her height in inches, feet, or whatever. Also, if you could include your source that would help. I need this for my history class. Thanks! :)
i have to do a project on Laura Ingalls Wilder. What kind of project shouldd i do?? im thinking of power point or poster but i want to do sumthing really unique and cool.
I swear when I was a kid I read a series of totally fictional books about life in Laura Ingalls Wilder's town. They took place after Rose was grown, and mostly detailed the lives of the widower reverend's three kids Larry, Terry and Sherry, and their friend Maurice. There was one in particular about Chinese immigrants coming in to work on the railroad that I really remember. What were these books called?
I HAVE A BOOK REPORT DUE TOMORROW AND I REALLY NEED HELP I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO DO ME THE REPORT IM JUST ASKING TO AT LEAST GIVE ME A SUMMARY OR A OUTLINE OF THE BOOK.

In the fifth grade, my sister still has difficulty sounding out simple words. This has been a trouble of hers since she was first learning how to read, and hasn't been improving since then.
My parents, on occasion, tell her to go to her room and read for an hour. However, they never test her on the material or anything. Also, she is in reading classes, yet her report card still shows that it is an area of concern.
Whenever I ask her to read a page out loud to me, she stumbles over simple words, instead just saying a word that comes to her mind that she is familiar with but is far from being the word on the page. I think that her problem is that she too quickly skims the word and just goes with whatever she thinks of. Whenever I try to break her of this habit, telling her to go back and sound the word out piece by piece, she still can't get it. That or she becomes too frustrated to even try.
My parents aren't of any help, not taking her to other programs that could help her. I try my best, but as illustrated above, there seems to be little that I can do.
What do you suggest that I do? Is there anything that I have yet to try that could possibly help her out? She is about to head into middle school where she will need to read novels for classes, but when she can't make her way through a Laura Ingalls Wilder book, I fear that the worst has yet to come for her.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I keep seeing where people are linking her to the TV show, yet nothing I search shows her listed as an actor for that show. Are they confusing her with the author of the book? Laura Ingalls Wilder??
On Wikipedia a quite extensive (though possibly incomplete) list of stars and guest stars through the years are listed, and I so far haven't found her name. Yet, internet blogs as well as TV talk shows have linked her with that show.
...technology disappeared completely for an entire year? And when I say technology, I mean anything invented after the 1850s. So you would be living like Laura Ingalls Wilder did.
How do you think society would cope without computers, phones, cars etc.?
The only technology available would be that of agriculture similar to the mid-1800s.
Where can I read the first chapter of Laura Ingalls Wilder's book "Little House On the Prarie?"?
I need to read just the first chapter for a writing assignment.
The first chapter in the first book.
Please give me a site that's free.
Thanks.
im doing an essay on the little house on the prairie by laura ingalls wilder and for a support of will power, my teacher told me to do faith in religion.
the book didn't really walk about religion. what can i write in my essay?
Thank you!
I have to read it for a book club, but I'm not sure if I'll be finished in time. Then, I have to make a timeline depicting some key points of the story that will explain it to the other members. A little help, please?
I always wish I could have lived back in Laura Ingalls Wilder's day. Life seemed so much less complicated and stressful. I know that there's so much to be grateful for today, but I just wish that I could have been born back then. Does anybody else ever feel this way?
she has a book report and she dose not know what person she should do 4 her biography book report here are some choices:Laura Ingalls Wilder,Oprah Winfrey,Ellen Hopkins,Ishmael Beah,Helen Keller,Abraham Lincoln,Benjamin Franklin,Thomas Edison,Diary of Anne Frank,Roald Dahl,Harry Houdini,Obama plzz help thanks!
I read long ago in a book by Laura Ingalls Wilder, set in the 1800's, about how a farmer and his family had to rush out to their potato field early one morning because an unexpected frost had come, and they had to individually douse each plant with water before the sun came up and hit the plants with light.
I remember reading that as soon as daylight hit the frosted plant, it would be ruined.
I never understood this...could someone explain please??
Thx
I'm having a problem with picking books for my daughter who seems to be an advanced reader according to her teacher. I like to get her books that are fun and capture her interest, but I don't want to get her anything too advanced OR too lower level either.
For her birthday, which is in a little over a week, I got her a boxed set of the movie version of the "Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis. I'd love to get her the original, but I thought that it might be hard for her to read at such a young age, so chose to wait until she was older, hoping that reading the movie versions now will set the characters in her mind now. She loved the movie, so I thought this would be fun for us to read together.
I also bought her a "Shrek 2" book, and a small Level 1 reader copy of "The Land Before Time". I thought I'd like to see if I can find the "Little House on the Prairie" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder because I fell in love with those stories as a little girl.
I am just a little nervous about giving them to her because picking books for her to read reminds me of when I was little. I taught myself to read at the age of four, and since I loved reading, I excelled pretty quickly, so by the time I was in third grade, they took me out of reading classes and made me tutor the slower learners in reading. When we had the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) days at our school, I wasn't allowed to choose children's books, and was brought high school and college level books to read! I hated that. It separated me from the rest of my classmates and I never really got much chance to read books that let me be a kid. I don't want to do that to her, but I also don't want to bore her with books that are too "kiddy" either, which she's complained about on occasion. So...if my child is reading at a third grade level in first grade, would these books be good for her?
I'd really appreciate any help you can give! I mean, she loved the movies "Shrek", "Chronicles of Narnia", and "Land Before Time", and she used to love to watch "Little House on the Prairie", but I'm not sure if I'm pushing her too hard to read the books...It's just getting hard to know what to give her because she bores with books for her age level, and I often catch her sitting and reading my books (though I think this has more to do with wanting to be like me than actually understanding what she's reading)...any help, or suggestions for what I can get her?
