Three suggestions:

1. Memory keeper;'s daughter. Fantastic, light read.
2. Handmaiden's Tale. Classic, academic, feminist book. Not a light read.
3. Like Water for Chocolate. I loved this book. A lot. It is magical realism which means things weird and magical randomly happen, so you have to like this kind of style.

Overall, if I were you I'd trade for Memory Keeper. (I've read most of the list, btw)

I would say either "Memory Keeper's Daughter" or "Like Water For Chocolate", my 3rd choice would be "Sea Glass"
