*The Woodlanders* by Thomas Hardy.
I'd just read Claire Tomalin's biography of him and was feeling confirmed in my prejudice that he was a pretty nasty person.
Reading the novel, all I could see was how cruel he was to his characters; how perfunctory most of the dialogue felt. I lost all patience before I was halfway through.

I couldn't finish "my little friend" either. I had to give up on "cloud atlas" and I have given up on "captain correlli's mandolin" twice.

"A Perfect Vacuum" by Stanislaw Lem. A collection of critical pieces on books that have never been written, some of which the author claims never could be written. This proved a book to far for me.

Answer #19:
"Not without my sister" can't remember the 3 sisters who wrote it
Answer #20:
It was a romance novel by Karen Hawkins, one of her latest. I often find her reads okay, but nothing special. After this one, I doubt I'll pick another one of her books for reading. What bothers me? Heroines that the author calls "feisty" but in reality are nothing else but completely and utterly irritating to the reader. I wish some historical romance authors would learn to write their heroines differently. Of course, there are romance lovers that don't mind that. Me? I wish that type of heroine a slow and very painful death (as with the TSTL types of heroines).
Answer #21:
Three pop to mind :
1) The Wise Woman by Philippa Gregory. Normally love her books but this one was really naf so gave up.
2) The call girl confessions book - can't remember the name of it but it's the one that had a tv adaptation done with Billie Piper. That just got so boring.
3) Mr Macgregor by Alan Titchmarsh - Total crap!!
