Brett Easton Ellis is an American author known for his controversial and disturbing novels. Born in 1964, Ellis began his career with the highly successful novel Less Than Zero, which was published in 1985 and became a cultural touchstone for its portrayal of the hedonistic and nihilistic lifestyle of young people in Los Angeles. Ellis followed this with a number of other novels, including American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction, which similarly explored dark and disturbing themes of violence, drug use, and consumer culture. Ellis continues to write and publish new work to this day.
