Charles Bukowski was an American poet, novelist, and short story writer known for his gritty, realist portrayals of working-class life and his dark, often humorous worldview. Born in 1920, Bukowski grew up in Los Angeles and spent much of his youth drifting from job to job and struggling with alcoholism. He began writing in his late thirties and quickly gained a reputation for his raw, unfiltered style and his ability to capture the struggles and the beauty of everyday life. Bukowski's most famous works include the novel Post Office and the poetry collections Love is a Dog from Hell and Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame. He passed away in 1994 at the age of 73.
