Angela Carter was an English novelist, short story writer, and journalist known for her feminist, magical realist, and postmodern works. Born in 1940, Carter began her career as a journalist and published her first novel, Shadow Dance, in 1966. She went on to write a number of other novels and collections of short stories, including The Magic Toyshop, Nights at the Circus, and The Bloody Chamber, which earned her a reputation as one of the most original and imaginative writers of her time. Carter's work is known for its bold exploration of gender, sexuality, and the role of women in society, and she is considered one of the most important feminist writers of the 20th century. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 51.
