pearl of blood by Lake e. Lou
pearl of blood
shadows bloom and bend and fall,
tracing blue veins across skin.
you wait
as the silence deepens
and draws across your skin.
shadows move across the room
with that slow darkness
night brings.
this is the pearl of blood
you've dreamt of:
the steel tongue cold,
pressed tight to shivering flesh.
this blood
you've watched
across closed eyes.
by fluttering candle glare
you paint black scars
where metal brings red.
a million glow candles
shudder
in the dark.
