labyrinth of dreams & secrets by Lake e. Lou
labyrinth of dreams & secrets
for Lily
we traveled a labyrinth of dreams & secrets
to a room of blue glass, round & empty
we curled inside
folded against the curves of the glass
light shone from outside
& we could watch the world turn
beneath our fingers
the other side of the glass was always dark
a mirror cracked with webs
passersby could not see into the globe
or hear our echoing voices
you were my secret
eyes locked on mine
unwavering
the bell laugh & whisper
tolled only for me
no other spoke to you
as i cast a web around us
unpenetratable cocoon
now i sit in a new room
with pale paper walls
you have found your own room
where you invite others
i hear you laugh
though i have said nothing
your voice carries
speaking unknown words
a language foreign to my ears
far from our secret midnight whispers
of mind thought
hands, eyes & lips
these hands
which once spoke to you
with a touch or caress
now reach into the dark
to find you gone
i follow your shadow
too far behind
for you to hear my step
i reach to grasp
the echo of your voice
but these walls
are too hard
i cannot break through
i sit before you
veiled in silence
each word my lips
seek to utter
would only
make you take flight
so i sit
alone
in silence
