stars in your hair by Lake e. Lou

stars in your hair

Remember the night
it rained pearls from the sky,
I walked in the dark alone.
The girl with the long pale hair
came up behind me
wrapped in a torn black coat.
“There are stars in your hair,”
she said to me.
I turned to her
and saw her eyes
shining in the dark.
I stayed with her
there in the dark
in the rain,
for hours telling lies.

At dawn she turned
and walked away
and never spoke to me again.
Sometimes I’d see her
in her torn black coat,
but she always looked away.

She never spoke to me again.
