Home | Add Link | Modify Link | New | Cool Links: Dreammachine Plans
Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville originally designed their Dreamachine Plans for use with a 78rpm record deck. In view of the increasing difficulty in locating working 78rpm decks, the plans published with Flickers of the dreamachine were re-designed for use with a 45rpm deck. Those revised plans are now available here. The files in the package include full instructions on how to build your own dreamachine. In addition to the instructions, you'll need a 45rpm turntable and a light source. I've also included some image files you might want to use as a desktop background.
Once downloaded, simply click on the file (it's called dream-45.exe). A window will open. You should then click on the 'extract' button. The program is set-up to ensure that you'll be asked if you want to overwrite any files. All this means is that if you already happen to have a folder or files with the same name you'll have an opportunity to stop the process.
Once you've hit the extract button, a confirmation box will show. Click 'ok'. The readme text (readme.txt) includes full instructions on how to use the files. It should open automatically, but if it doesn't you'll be able to find it (and the files) in the folder C:dream on your hard drive.

Sondheim
"Writer Alan Sondheim mentioned in conversation about a month ago that, in the 1970s, he'd written a text program that recast the user's text as they entered it...a kind of trickster Windows Notepad. Fascinated, I immediately began working on my own version of this program.
The result is sondheim.exe, a standalone artware application written in Visual Basic that recasts your text, sometimes inserting lines from Alan Sondheim's volumninous output or from my own, based on an internal timer. You can configure the timer to change your text at a variety of speeds (the default is 20 seconds), choose from four different font faces, and freeze the timer to more closely examine the text. In addition to this, sondheim.exe performs the usual text editor functions--cut, copy, paste, save...
This software should work on all versions of Windows (sorry, Mac-people...)
Watch your text change as you use this strange new word processor!"

Triggerhappy
A playable on-line re-creation of the ATARI classic, 'Space Invaders' where instead of fending off pixelly alien invaders, you must defend yourself against paragraphs of philosophical text taken from Michel Foucault's essay, 'What is an Author?' The game has nine levels and each player is given three lives. You must have the Shockwave plug-in installed to play this game.
