Does anyone else hate poetry?
I love to read and have read thousands of books on subjects that interest me but poetry makes me want to pull my own hair out. Many of my friends think I’m crazy because of this. Is there anyone else this way? If you are going to criticize me don’t bother answering please.
drew you are one ‘case’ congratulations!

Yes, I do. For the most part, I absolutely HATE poetry. There was a movie titled Orlando, in which the Orlando character played by the incomparable Tilda Swinton looked directly at the camera and said ironically, ” Ah, poetry!” My sentiments exactly.
I once knew a poet who drank. He was writing an epic poem about billiards. In the end he became a drunk who wrote poetry. Some of his poems were quite interesting. I remember one about birds on an electric wire that had their feet cut off. The image is impressive and perhaps meaningful.
Still, I SO much prefer prose and character development and plot. You are not alone, and there is nothing wrong with you.

I loveth to read and thy have read thousands of books on thee subjects that thy interests thee,
but thou poetry makes thou pull thee own’s beloved golden arches flowing from thy lovely head of adam.
Many of thou fellow brethren seek that thee are lost in thy seas of Jones Locker
for thy hatred of “thees and thous” forth not have succumb to thy despair of cognitive words.
forth there not a soul like thee whom seek vengeance of adam’s despair for “thees and thous”?
If thou art to to plunder the do not forsake thous temper of fury call upon thy question in handed upon thee…
- i just translated your statement in Shakespearan poetry form
i think you hate the thou’s and thee’s and words bounded with adjectives that makes it boring enough to try to understand. i know what you mean and it’s cool. sometimes we are compelled to understand the context of statements in a logical yet unorthodox manner because some English guy called Shakespeare didn’t study his grammar lessons… because grammar didn’t exist back then. hahaha!
If it’s the mushy cheezy type of poetry intended to sweep some girl of her feet i totally agree with you, might as well act like a jack ass and see if she totally digs you as you are! hahaha!

Well I’m a creative writing major who may be focusing on poetry, but I still feel like I can relate. A lot of the crap that they make kids read in high school is just ridiculous pretentious shit that the kids can’t relate to, and the stuff that most people post here (no offence to anyone that post’s here) is vague and cliche.
