I love well written books, I read ALOT. I love music with meaningful lyrics. But poetry that doesn’t rhyme, sorry it just seems pretentious and self indulgent. What am I not getting? - ninebadthings

For those who care for the poems of past, this year and the month of May can be considered as one of the best ways to relish these poems. And to be more exact, this is the time to show appreciation once again to the great sonnet works of Shakespeare, Shakespeare being one of the big names when it comes to cute love poems and sonnets about love. But why is May a perfect time to celebrate love and cherish the poems of Shakespeare?
The year as the 400th year of Shakespeare’s sonnets and poems.
Well the third week of the month of May marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s sonnets. According to records, the first edition of the sonnets which include some great poems was released on May 20, 1609 and this was made possible by Thomas Thorpe. Other sources will zero-in on a different date, but still they are one in saying that the first edition of the master’s sonnets was published in 1609, thus the year 2009 marks the 400th year of the sonnet’s existence. After 400 years of being published, Shakespeare words as used on his poems remain true, popular and continues to promote love. And the question is, will there be modern words as well that can lasts for the next 400 years and match the longevity of the words and the poems of this great master?
What are sonnets and love poems?
As a lead off to the celebration, some Shakespearean scholars have noted that Thorpe may have released the poems and the sonnets of Shakespeare without the consent of the author. But whether or not there was consent, the important thing is that the precious gems of Shakespeare in the form of sonnets and poems has been made available and has inspired many generations of lovers. The sonnets of the poet are actually forms of poems, and these sonnets are considered as the most common forms of poetry. Sonnets that talk of love, called love poems in general are poems composed of thirteen lines and these poems contain a set rhyme and arranged in a logical structure. But perhaps the best description for these sonnets is that these sonnets are associated with love poetry and as such they are known as love poems. Poems in the form of sonnets are known to use the poetic diction that is based more on vivid imagery.
Reasons why sonnets and love poems of Shakespeare and other masters stand the test of time.
And the best known poems and sonnets are the ones written by Shakespeare. The sonnets and poems of Shakespeare introduced many generations of lovers to timeless poems’ lines. Lovers and couples who know their poems know these lines’ “shall I compare thee to a summer’s day” or perhaps the more vivid “remembrance of things past”. Poems of this celebrated poet contain lines that express many thoughts about love and even betrayal. Sonnets and poems that talk about love are considered as the most personal poems around, may be because these poems addresses one of the most important emotions known to man- to love. These kinds of poems are here to stay, as long as man continues to love. Just look at the works of Shakespeare- it continues to make the romantics’ heart beat faster even after 400 years…

Poetry is such vibrant means of communicating. It is one’s creative way of expressing emotion, intellect and aspirations. It is filled with sentiment and mirrors the individual’s true inner being. Such channel of expression is befitting an equally elating occasion: the anticipated arrival of a newborn. Here are ways of incorporating poems into the momentous event, the baby shower.
Invitation Poems
Poetry about babies can give the baby shower invitation added charm. Think of what it feels like to have a baby, the hope of anticipation and the fulfillment of birth. Include in the poem how you’d like those wonderful feelings to be shared with the guest being invited. Finally, to give the invitation a customized appeal, include the invitation details in the poem, carefully spreading the details, all throughout the verse, if possible.
Thank You Poems
Thank you poems are creative ways of expressing love and happiness for the future newborn. With the upcoming occasion, there are many things to thank for: having God’s blessing in such a feeble form or having the support of family and friends while playing the waiting game. Mom-to-be can deliver the thank you poem. If it is a co-ed baby shower, the Dad-to-be can do the honors.
Another way of saying thank you is through the baby shower thank you card. This is sent to all guests who gave gifts for the occasion. Include a short rhyme on how blessed the baby is for having guardians as loving as the guest who sent the gift. Then end by thanking them for it.
Poems for Baby Shower Activities
It is unusual to have a baby shower and poetry reading in one, but it is an idea that can work among a very strong lyrical society. Most poets are very comfortable in expressing and conversing in verses, and if the future parents are poets themselves, then a poetry reading baby shower is not a bad idea. Who knows… they maybe anticipating a future rhymester!
However, if you are like the rest of the world, incorporating poems is not impossible in the conventional baby shower. It actually adds an enriching dimension to the event that everyone can gain knowledge from. Use rhymes to open and close the event, or when praising the Mom-to-be or future newborn. Riddles are also poems so use them in a game of treasure hunt or guessing game.
Cake Poetic Inscriptions
Since Verses and Rhymes is a good theme for a baby shower, why not include a line on the cake? Express how your future newborn is as sweet as the cake, or how much everyone is lovingly waiting for the baby. Mom-to-be does the honor of articulating the cake inscription before cutting it.
Baby Shower Favors
A fundamental part of any baby shower is the party favors, both as prizes and memorabilia. This is a wonderful opportunity to incorporate poems!
For winning games, contests or solving riddles, prizes can be awarded together with a poem about how remarkable the win was. The poetic party host can pronounce, in verses, how amazing the game was played and how miraculous winner won. Lastly, prize recipients can give their own “thank you” verse or two.
As the guests leave, give them an inexpensive memento of the occasion, and as in the whole baby shower theme, include a poem about how it was made special because of the guest’s presence.
Poems indeed, add more life to such a warmhearted occasion about giving life: the baby shower.

Has your relationship been nice but you now want to make it great, you have gone through all the ideas of enhancing a relationship and they do not seem to appeal much. Are you a creative person, and you would like to make use of it in your relationship? Use a love poem to tell the person you love that they are the one for you. There are several ways of writing a love poem but you can use a sonnet. This is when you use fourteen line poem to communicate with the person on exactly what you feel.
When writing a love poem, make sure you write exactly how you feel. This is because, writing exactly how you feel is more likely going to come out as sincere and well put than trying to be too creative. The most important thing here is for your partner to realize that you made a poem specifically for them and it was hard work. Write about how you felt the first time you met with the person. Most people cannot forget how they met and how they felt like. Put the feeling on a piece of paper. You can also go ahead and tell them what you like about them and they have that still has the ability to make you feel attracted to them.
A love poem just like any other poem does not need to rhyme, but if you feel you need to make it rhyme, go right ahead and do your best. There are so many rhyming dictionaries that you can employ their help if you feel you are stuck and you really want your poem to rhyme. When writing a love poem, make sure you do not violate any poetic rule. You should make sure it sounds professional and serious but not too serious to make your partner feel out of place when they are reading it. You can also use a metaphor when writing a love poem. Metaphors are just describing words that transform even the most boring of articles into something interesting. You can come up with your own metaphor that is fun and interesting and only known to the two of you. However, there are many metaphors that you can use that do not necessarily have to be originally yours.
Once you finish writing the love poem, read it out loud. This is always a good practice whenever you finish writing any piece of work. Whenever you read something out loud, it comes alive, depending with how it sounds you should make some corrections. If you read something out loud and it sounds boring, most probably it will also sound boring to the person it was meant for. If it sounds interesting, it most probably is interesting. Make sure all the words are spelt correctly and well punctuated to give it the ring and rhythm you or desire. Present your partner with a finished product, let it be neat, if possible, well decorated ready to be admire with your love.

Transcendental poetry originates in the heart of the seer-poet, and awakens in the hearts of humanity. Therefore, transcendental poetry is not for thinkers. It attempts to silence the thinker so the heart’s yearning, the heart’s call, can be heard and felt, simultaneously.
The seer-poet communicates the past, the present and the future simultaneously. Each word penned to paper is a living entity, an expression of freshly released energy, a bolt of enlightening life-force if you wish, linking the Divine, the seer-poet, his words, and the reader together in a light-stringed web of understanding, passion and love.
The seer-poet knows he cannot beat his own heart, so he transmits Divine Shakti (force or light) using verse, describing every event and circumstance, that make up his humble existence here, as an expression of love and gratitude to the Light that lives him. In turn, each vowel and consonant becomes a bolt of light supreme that draws the reader to the word. That is the nature of the light-giving cycle. It’s like using a lit candle to light another one, and so on, and so on…
To the seer-poet then, his work is not epic, tragic, nor comedic, it’s ECSTATIC! His poems do no imitate life, they imitate the Divine, Da (the giver). How can the reader be captivated by mere words, void of life supreme, no matter how cleverly they rhyme, have meter, or are in tune with the flute of the shadow goddess. If the heart is not touched, the reader may as well cast a blind eye to the page.
In conclusion, transcendental poetry attracts those who are vulnerable, those who are suffering a total disillusionment (positive) with conditional existence. To the seer-poet, his work is not to make the reader feel good, or to make him feel bad, it’s intended purely to make him feel without limitation. True ecstasy transcends limitation, therefore transcendental poetry transcends mere words.

Writing a love poem for the one you love can seem like an impossible task when you’ve memories of struggling with English in school. But it needn’t be.
Even if you remember the correct grammatical terms for verse and rhyme is not important here? Whilst that’s great to know when you’re studying literature, it might hold you back when you’re starting out on your very own love poem.
Only two things are important here.
1. To think from the heart
2. To write from the heart
So how to start?
1. First of all get yourself some paper and a pen and block off a bit of time when you won’t be undisturbed. If you want to play some music fine, but let it be inspiring stuff, rather than loud and aggressive. I’ve often found that setting aside a particular block of time, (say - Geraldine Jozefiak
