Where can I sell my poetry?

I would like to know where i can sell the poetry I write it’s freestyle and somewhat dark depressive but still good or so I’ve heard I have over 20 poems I’ve written and figured I could use the cash why not sell what I love and put it to good use.So if you could help me in any way that would be terrific.

No one want to buy your poetry. I used to work in a publishing house and people would send us their poetry in the hopes of having it published, but we just laughed at it and threw it away. Your only chance is to publish your own book of poems and sell it at poetry readings or online. But you probably won’t even break even doing that.

Poetry is very hard to sell. But get yourself a copy of The Writer’s Market (most libraries will have it). It’s an excellent resource for writers, that lists magazines and the type of submissions they accept. There is also an on-line version that may be helpful.

“Dark and depressive”? There’s enough of that stuff in the poetry world. No thanks.

Truth is, you cannot just sell your stuff, and freestyle poetry in particular would be the hardest of all to have published. Simply because there are just too many people out there writing so-called ‘freestyle’ poetry. I appreciate that it is a matter of preference, but what they label freestyle, is not really poetry at all. It’s largely thoughts written down in lines, with very little if any rhyme. Basically, it’s prose. Meaningful and deep it may be (mostly to the writer, it has to be said but very seldom of interest to anyone else) No doubt your stuff is very good, but there is little market for that style. Just look at most of the stuff you see on right here on Answers!
If you think what you have written is worthy of publication, then your best bet is to approach your local newspaper, or even a city or National paper. But it’s tough, and your stuff has to REALLY be good.
