On Tuesday, November 2nd, Francesca Lia Block joined us in the gURL chat auditorium for a live chat with the gURL community.

Here's what she had to say...

Moderator: Welcome to the gURL chat with Francesca Lia Block!

emya: How long have you been a writer?

FLB: My first book was published in 1989.

FLB: I've been writing most of my life, before that I wrote a lot of poetry when I was little and then short stories.

FLB: I started and finished writing my first book in college.

Psycho_Vampiress: Ms. Block, you can make the rawest of emotions sound beautiful. How do you accomplish this?

FLB: I try to see the dark and light in everything. This is my way of comforting myself when I am dealing with those emotions.

blinkfairy: When is your next book coming out and what will it be about?

FLB: After Violet and Claire (which is out now), there are 2 books coming out in the year 2000.

FLB: One is called, "The Rose and The Beast, Fairytales Retold." The second is "Nymph," and it is a book of erotic short stories. The first will be published by HarperCollins Publishers, and the second is Circlet Press.

tangerine_glitter: I love the L.A. theme to all of your novels, especially in Violet and Claire. In future books, do you plan to keep the setting in Los Angeles?

FLB: Thank you! Most of my upcoming books are at least partially set in LA. I think I will continue.

sickgirl33: How can I get "Ecstasia" or "Primavera?" I can't find it anywhere!

FLB: These are two fantasy novels that I wrote which are out of print. I have a few copies of "Ecstasia," but "Primavera" has pretty much vanished. I may be selling some copies of "Ecstasia" through Skylight Books in L.A.

superspy99: Who are your personal favorite authors to read?

FLB: I like the magical realists, like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I also like JD Salinger and Colette.

Wigg: I heard that there is a movie coming out based on "Weetzie Bat." What's the status on that?
