hey. i've loved francesca lia block's work for so long...i think i discovered her sometime in early middle school. now i'm going to be twenty in december, so it's been quite a while. her work is definitely very sentimental to me...i kinda grew up with it and was inspired by a lot of it. it makes me feel nostalgic and reminds me of when i was more naive and unsure and growing up and being really really into her work. my favorite book is probably Violet & Claire. i've reread it so many times. it had a really big impact on me when i first read it. i love all her books though... i have yet to read some of the most recent ones, like the ones from 08 and like, the dating guide..and some other books. but ive read a good amount lol, over half definitely.
ive had so much going on lately though and havent really been reading much at all. tonight i was bored and was doing random internet surfing and i forget what, but something reminded me of her, so i googled her. it turns out we have the same birthday which for some reason made me ecstatic. i dunno why i didnt know before, maybe i did but forgot. anyway. i dunno! it just made me so happy lol. so that revived my flb passion a bit, made me remember one of the promiment things that shaped me when i was younger.
anyway thats it. gonna have to buy those newer books. =) more...

least favorite?
hey everyone! I'm new to the community. I've loved FLB since I first discovered Echo in a local library when I was 12. I have since been gathering her books (a lot through paperbackswap.com since I am poor) and have been rereading all of them.I was wondering, which of her books were your least favorite? Mine had to be Ecstacia. I never even finished it cause I just couldn't get into it at all! more...

My senior quote is due in just a few weeks and I'm really having trouble coming up with something absolutely marvelous. So, what's your favorite awe-worthy quote girls, FLB or not?
:)
Francesca read my writing! & she commented: "pretty use of words and images love flb" !!!That means so much to me, to have positive feedback from her on my writing. I'll share what she read, in case any of you are interested:
sleeping down a desert blanket screen printed tundra rose and natural shades of grey & jade in the skyline this electricity hums silently somehow drowning out the cacophony from the city down below the bay where the moss meets the crags and her smile is your last handprint in newly laid cement where we will dig a grave to rest all our dead poppies & daisies & iris & lilies that catch the ashen sunlight especially bright on passing afternoons when the sky is blue and all your fears come true to haunt you from a distance indiscernable to me and slighted by you when you run out of the house without shoes that wouldn't belong to a creature like you anyway you look at it you see the smog smeared in the sunset turning toxic shades of wildflower colors seeping out from the soil separated in spurting patterns as if been pressed lightly with two sets of sprinting toes chipped in faded red polish & laden with calloused corners of the room that never stay still while you walk towards them and blink to behold a carnation carpet studded with chips of glass and granite stone fireplaces boarded up on the ceilings that drip all night long while the glitter and the pitch both find you alone.

Hello honey pies! My name is Aurora. I'm from Miami, Florida. I'm going to Los Angeles the 21st of July for the first time, and I was wondering if there was anyone who currently lives there that could suggest cool clubs/bars or anywhere in particular to go! (Besides the FLB-esque places I'm already heading for!) :) I'd greatly appreciate it! more...

francesca ish food in connecticut
so there is a amazing japanese place in new haven ct that has food that sounds like the kind of food flb describes in alot of her books. i had pumkin miso soup, and these huge amazing veggie sushi rolls like eggplant teriyaki and rolls filled with mango and sweet potato. thought it was worth mentioning since she mentions japanese food a lot more...Selling my entirety $3 each!
Hi everyone, I've decided to leave the world of Francesca Lia Block. As I am growing out of her style of writing (though I have fond memories of some of my books still) It's hard to do, but I want to sell my entire line of FLB books including her anthology firebirds rising. Each of my books are $3, with $3 shipping. I know that someone on this comm wants these books and you guys will treat her books well. I have all her books except the newer ones that have come out in the past year like quakeland etc.I'm also selling messages in bottles for $3, so please come and check it out.

Hello again everyone
Hello!I posted not that long ago about a project I had. In it, we had to discuss why a book (I chose Weetzie Bat) should be on our American Lit. class syllabus. We also have to make a presentation and have a poster. I plan on doing something different with my poster, and I'm thinking about making little slinkster dogs and putting each bullet point on a different dog. When I talk about that point, I'll hang the dog on the board. The only problem with this, is that Slinkster doesn't really play a big role, and I think most people won't get the reference.
Here's where you come in: Does anyone have any other ideas about a unique poster? I just HATE seeing square posters with squares of construction-paper backed Times New Roman-style posters.
Thanks! more...
note from francesca!!
i'll be at los angeles times festival books form 2-3 on saturday april 25th at the manic d booth signing "open letter to quiet light" if you are around--it's my new poetry collection xxxooo more...So I have a project for my American Literature class, and the project is my final grade for the class. We have to pick an American author, and write about which book of his/hers should be on the syllabus. The presentation should be about why it should be on the syllabus. I want to do it on Weetzie Bat. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks guys! more...
FLB cooking!
Last Saturday, my best friend and I baked a pie/tart thing from Baby Be-Bop. We got the recipe from this website. Everybody who ate some was like "Wow, this is such a weird recipe, where did you get it?". It was awesome!
We could only find peach/passionfruit pie filling, but it was still so delicious.
Anybody else tried FLB cooking before? How were the results?

Deerwomen more...anthologies
I wondered if any of you own the anthologies that Francesca has a story in, "When I was your Age vol1" and the "Firebirds Rising"...I just wanted to know if its worth buying the books for Francesca's stories, what are they about and how long (roughly) are they? or is there anywhere online that has these stories?
I just bought the book about Zines that she wrote and have very little money left and dont want to buy the books if I can find them online somewhere or if they are only really short stories.
thanks
oh, and the mythological dating guide she is writing is now up for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk more...
an introduction, yes.
Hellohello. I just joined this community because I have decided to stop neglecting LJ after many many moons!I'm Lauren, but I prefer Lola Leaf, just because it makes me smile :D I'm 21, live in beautiful British Columbia and am an English major!
and, obviously. I love FLB with a burning passion that makes me crazy and want to write like her and live in her world. She reminds me that life is dangerous and beautiful and sad and crazy and happy all at the same time. She makes sorrow beautiful, and happiness even more amazing.
I love all her books but am fond of the Weetzie books above all. I have the compiled book and I love to go through and underline my favourite parts :) and then write them out all prettylike in a notebook. It's good for the soul!
anyways, pleased to meet you all :D
xoxo. more...
