Letter to Francesca...what do we all think?

Dear Francesca,

I have been a fan of your writing for the longest time. I initially was a fan of Suza Scalora...and one day while perusing the library I found your book I Was A Teenage Fairy. I noticed it because the cover was one of Suza’s photos...and I figured, “hey, if this author chose this photo as her cover, she has to be cool.� So I picked it up, and didn’t put it down until I finished it that night. And I probably went out and bought it about a week later, so I could read it again without the hassle of re-checking it out from the library.
I was enthralled and enchanted by the vivid and beautiful language and of course, the story line. The characters, theme, setting...everything jumped out of the page and into my imagination where I felt like it had been waiting to be released for a long time. I though to myself...�now here is someone who can put all the things I have always been feeling onto a page and make some sense of it,� and I literally loved you for that, as I still do.
After that first novel, I went out and started my collection of all your novels...that is, when I had the extra pocket money to buy a new book. I admit, I still haven’t read all of them...but I am getting there. I like to pour over them several times before moving onto the next, and I often find myself going back to them again and again.
The second book I read was Dangerous Angels! I read the first page...and instantly fell in love with everything the book encompassed. Once again...I just knew “this woman gets it...she spectacular!�
It’s been about 4 years since I picked up that first book, and I honestly don’t think I’ve lost my vigor and spirit...and love for the books that made me feel complete...your books. I am still finding new online communities to join to discuss your novels and new websites about you or your books, and new information...and I am still reading your novels. I eat them up.
I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for understanding, and for taking that understanding and putting it out there for all to see. Your novels have changed my life in a very big way. They opened my eyes to beauty and grace that I had never known before. They showed me pain, sorrow, beauty, imagination, creativity, happiness, longing, and most importantly love. If I ever feel like I need one of those things...I pick up Violet and Claire, or Missing Angel Juan, or I Was A Teenage Fairy and I instantly get what I need. Magic.


I have a few questions for you if you would be so kind as to answer them. I would really appreciate it.

1. Your books describe so many amazing foods. I am a HUGE lover of foods. Are these things that you have learned to cook over the years? Have you ever considered writing a recipe book?
2. I have heard talk recently that you might be turning The Weetzie Bat Books into movies. Who would you cast as your ideal Weetzie, Witch Baby, and Cherokee Bat?
3. Your books describe the most beautiful and amazing clothes and accessories imaginable. From moccasins to fringed mini-dresses, to the perfect sunglasses, and large taffeta dresses. Where do you get your fashion inspiration and what kind of things do you hold dear in your own closet?
4. And finally...even if I don’t want to be a writer (although I love to write, I want to pursue costume design) what would you say are some life lessons that you couldn’t have gone without knowing that have made you a true success?

Oh....My......God....

First allow me to apologize for my extreme leave of absence. Somewhere between the credit people tying up my line, my P.C dying, hoping to pass my job evaluation, clean up of the office for summer, and beauty school interviews, I remembered that I had created a little frosty, glitter-winged community. *sighs*

I must say, I am totally surprised that this community has gained so many members! I'm glad it's our admiration for Mrs. Block that brings us together. I do believe I owe one of our members a new icon, and the select a new theme for our layout. I will be contacting that person shortly, and I do ask their forgiveness for delaying their award for so long.

As of yet, I am forced to use the computers at my job, so I may not be writing everyday, but I will be posting info once every week, guaranteed. Our Newsletter is still in the works, and will hopefully be out sometime in July.

My e-mail is still the same, so feel free to contact me, especially the new members, so I can update the birthday list.

Lanky Lizards! The zines finally done!




I know I kind of dissapeared, but I've had alot of stuff on my plate these past months.
Anyway, I finally finished the 1st issue of the FLB Fanzine! (that counts as mailart, right?) Sorry that the pics are so crappy but I bought this digital camera on ebay for a dollar. I’ll try to have my friend scan a better pic .




The zine is 46 ½ pages and full of poetry, stories and art. It’s Issue #1 and it's called Love Junkies.. Costs $2.50 plus postage. What do ya think?

Hey Guys! I'm new- but not to Dangerous Angels I started reading the Weetzie Bat books when I was really young, even though I didn't understand them.  I love Block, I love everything about her writing... from the simplicity to the poetics.  It is such an inspiration for me as a writer.
