Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, and critic known for his dark and mysterious works of fiction and poetry. Born in 1809, Poe was a pioneering figure in the American literary world and is widely considered to be the inventor of the modern detective story. He is best known for his poems "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee," and his short stories "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Fall of the House of Usher," which are among the most famous and enduring works in American literature.
