Mary Oliver (1935-2019) was an American poet and essayist. She won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for her poetry collections, and was celebrated for her meditations on nature, spirituality, and the human experience. Oliver's work often dealt with themes of observation, connection to the natural world, and the search for understanding and gratitude. She published over 15 collections of poetry during her lifetime, and was widely considered one of the most important and influential poets of her generation. Oliver passed away on January 17, 2019, at the age of 83.
