J.D. Salinger was an American novelist and short story writer who is best known for his novel The Catcher in the Rye. The book, which tells the story of a disillusioned teenager named Holden Caulfield, is considered a classic of American literature and has been widely read and studied by generations of young people. Salinger was a reclusive figure who wrote little after the publication of The Catcher in the Rye, and his later work has never been published.
