Ernest Hemingway was an American author and journalist known for his spare, direct prose style and his adventurous, globe-trotting lifestyle. Born in 1899, Hemingway was a World War I veteran and a foreign correspondent who reported from some of the most dangerous and exotic locations in the world. He is best known for his novels The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls, which are considered classics of American literature. Hemingway's writing is known for its portrayal of brave and honorable characters who are tested by the challenges of war, nature, and society, and his work continues to be read and studied around the world. He passed away in 1961 at the age of 61.
