I am interested in books like Harry Potter (by J.K. Rowling) and Warriors (by Erin Hunter) but I've finished reading them and I'm looking for some other books like them. Don't suggest any vampire books though.
I just said no vampire books and sombody suggest Twilight, would it hurt to read one paragraph of a question?
I have a hardcover copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone signed by J.K Rowling. The print information is: Printed in the U.S.A. 37

First American edition, October 1998
Well, i'm writing a book and i need different fantasy character ideas. Witches and Wizards are taken by J.K Rowling and her Harry Potter series and Werewolves and Vampires are taken by Stephanie Meyer and her series, Twilight. Can anyone give me ideas on anything else besides Witch/Wizards and Vampires and Werewolves? I'm stuck!
i need to do an essay for english about j k rowling and i really need some help
thanks :-)
i kno all that stuff about her and ive read her books i just need help on wat to write
so instead of using the name Caprar-Ilinca, I was gonna use D.C. Ilinca but then i read that agents say it's too cliche to do it like J.K. Rowling or J.R.R Tolkien. is caprar-ilinca really too hard? should i use a pen name?
My pen name would probably be Lorna Grae
Fantasy/sci-fi genre
Ok so I have been researching names for a story I'm hoping to write, but I don't want to get told off for copying J.K. Rowling's masterpiece!
So I found names I like, like Draco (I love Draco from Harry Potter)
Would it be plagurism if I used the name Draco for my main character? It will be about magic also.... not like a magic school, but see my other questiom to know what its about....
I LOVE LORD VOLDEMORT!
Seriously it just pisses me off!!! Why did J.K Rowling have to kill so many people?!
Dobby, Tonks, Lupin, Sirius, Mad-Eye, Snape, Dumbledore, Hedwig, and FRED!!! HOW COULD SHE KILL FRED?!
I loved the series but I hate how so many awesome people die :`(
I heard she was going to write Harry Potter and the Mystic Kettle of Nackledurk or something. When will it be released in stores?
Haha. U ppl here on Y!A have NO sense of humor, seriously...
When is J.K. Rowling supposed to finish writing the Goblet of Fire? And when will it be released in book stores? Also, do you know if there will be a midnight release for it?
Ergh! U guys are no fun! Do you seriously think that I'm dumb enough to think that the Goblet of Fire hasn't been released yet? Haha XD
Stupid question fooled you all! Look at my username, plz!
What type of book do kids really REALLY like? I am a kid but I think I like different books than other kids. I pretty much like the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (Lol, a lot of kids like that) the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast (There is definitely not a lot of kids that like that) and the Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan (Not a lot of kids like that series either). I am trying to make a children's book, but one for maybe 9-13 year old girls. I don't want a book like Little Red Riding Hood or Cinderella. No fairytales. What sort of things do most 9-13 year old girls like in a book? Can you give me some books so I can read them for examples?
I already read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast and I absolutely loved them!! I am looking for another series to start reading. What would you reccomend? And please, just don't mention Twilight!
Oh and I also loved the Cirque Du Freak series by Darren Shan!
Almost everyone I see is obsessed with Twilight. What's so good about it? I find the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and the House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast way better. I really don't get why so many people are obsessed with it. Personally, I hate it. So what IS so "great" about it?
And honestly, the way Meyer describes Edward, makes me want to throw up.
Oh sorry, I didn't mean to say that that 3 times, lol.
And honestly, the way Meyer describes Edward, makes me want to throw up.
And honestly, the way Meyer describes Edward, makes me want to throw up.
my friend and I are writing a novel but we need a pen name! It needs to be a non-silly name. We have no idea what it could be. Preferable something with two first letters and a last name (like C.S. Lewis or J.K. Rowling... we like that style.)
thanks!
I'm searching not for opinions, but only JKR's declarations and interviews. I know there will be the encyclopedia, but i'm talking about novels, It doesn't matter if there will be a new Harry Potter's story, i'm talking about the magical universe
The following are my most recent collection of favorites. (book wise) Most i've found through school assignments, so I'm wondering, what next?
A Land Remembered-Patrick Smith--7th grade
Angela's Ashes-Frank McCourt (in the middle of it, no spoilers plox)--now
1984-George Orwell--this past summer
Shooting an Elephant-George Orwell--like two weeks ago
The Truth About Forever-Sarah Dessen--three weeks ago?
Undone-Brooke Taylor--...four weeks ago? idk, sometime within the start of school, same for Dessen's book
Twilight Series-Stephanie Meyer--read them all in one week of each other, about two weeks after the movie came out
Harry Potter Series-J.K. Rowling--been reading these since 6th grade :-)
Like Water For Chocolate-Laura Esquivel--Last Year for an English Extra Credit Assignment
But anyway, i love George Orwell's writings, and I love to read literary books, I do not however like to analyze them. I'm wondering what you suggest, I've already read Twilight and Harry Potter, so I like those kinds of books as well, just, i dunno... suggestions pleeease!
P.S. I also watch Naruto, Death Note, and Bleach. I've read Death Note, I watched Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and..... hmm... i think i'm done....
Oh! i've already seen Spirited Away the movie. I loved it! Is it an anime or a book though?
I'm planning to do a 3-5 minutes speech on either j.k rowling/harry potter. I need an intro and to make 3 points. Now I'm not sure what type of information I would like to do. Either how some of her ideas started fandom like potter puppet pals, shoebox ect.
Or point out ideas on how she started the series.
Though alot of people know that. I'm looking for an idea to keep my listeners awake and something they might not know of the hp series and such.
I just finished HP 7, and i think i'm about to cry. ): AHHH, i just feel so EMPTY, cause I feel like I actually KNOW them, and now there are NO MORE HP BOOKS..... *wails heartbrokenly* ARGHHHH..... *hiccups morosely*
ANYWAY
I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to know if there are any rumors of J.K. Rowling writing anymore series's? Or books??? And are there any books similar to Harry Potter - in ANY way? Like... a book that makes you bond with the characters alot? Cause I've always immersed myself in a book when things got rough, since it's sort of like leaving your own mind to occupy another for a while [yep, i'm just a SLIGHT bookworm...(::] and HP worked SO WELL for me, cause I could always relate to the characters, and everything was amazingly realistic, especially when everything is based around a world that doesn't exist!! *sad sob* AND POOOR SNAPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! he's BY FAR my FAVORITE-EST CHARACTER IN THE BOOK!!!! *wipes away tears sadly* I LOVELOVELOOOOVE him!!
Well.... thanks in advance. ): best answer will be awarded!!
In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, on page 485 (After the Burial) Professor Slughorn is talking about how he checked for poisons in the drinks when they're at Hagrid's hut after Aragog died. Maybe she did it to make a reference or something or maybe she did it on accident. If you know, tell me :)
Harry Potter Series -- J.K Rowling
Twilight Series -- Stephanie Meyer
House of NIght Series - P.C and Kristin Cast
The Host - Stephanie Meyer
His Dark Materials Series -- Philip Pullman

Heres a list of what ive read and liked.
Phillip pullman - His dark materials
J k Rowling - Harry potter
Terry Goodkind - The sword of truth
Robert Jordan - The wheel of time
stephenie meyer - twilight series/ the host
emily rodda - Deltora quest
Scott westerfeld - uglies trilogy

c.s. lewis - The chronicles of narnia
and dont recommend the shannara series or the dark tower series as i am downloading them ATM.
and i would prefer something i could listen to on audiobook.
She is to good for twilight and twilight is getting to much annoying attention i dont know but when ever i hear people not shutting up about twilight i feel like my head is going to break people wont shut up about the point less books and movies people have been going on for about one in a half years about it. Stepanie Meyer uses bad literature any way and why does bella need all the attention from edward and the jacob guy who all ways takes his shirt off. This book is almost as fake as high school musical. Well i really think J.K Rowling who actually adds a point in her books should get a nobel prize for literature.
Am I the only one who thought it murdered the book and is wondering where the hell J.K.Rowling was? Why did they add the scene where the Weasly's house gets burned and take so much else out???
Im a 16 year old boy who loves reading, my favorite books are things related to magic, mythical creatures, dragons, vamps etc..
Books i have read:
Inheritance Trilogy By Christopher Paolini
All Darren Shan books
The Belgariad + The Malloriann by David Eddings
The Black Magician Trilogy+The Age Of Five by Trudi Caravan
Harry Potter Trilogy By J.K rowling
Reading The Wheel Of Time Trilogy By Robert Jorden
Might have missed a few out
It's in superb condition. Has an authentification sticker that proves it was officially signed by J.K. Rowling herself. On a more personal level, I dont know if I'll ever part with this book (meeting JK Rowling and shaking her hand and her signing a brand new book was unforgettable!), but i'm only asking because im curious.
*signed copy
what books do you like better? HP or Twilight?
ok well... i do like twilight but come on! harry potter will ALWAYS be the best haha :p
HP books are so exciting and there is always something happening in each chapter! oh and the books are huge :)
and twilight...a vampire that sparkles...i dont know.. so many wrong things about the book now but i liked reading them lol
but i think harry potter is better sorry twilight fans...
I <3 j.k rowling!!
I need to choose a costume based on a book by Michael Scott, J.K. Rowling, Obert Skye, or the person who wrote the mysterious benedict society. Also I'm Black. Needed by Friday.
That would be awesome!!!! I heard somewhere that she was... Do you think she will? A whole 7 years would be pretty sweet!
I LOVE LORD VOLDEMORT!!!
Well muggles, do you think she will?
Lord Voldemort is not dead... he has more horcruxes!!!! He made one when he killed Snape! And I mean his school years, that would be awesome!
Or how often do they even read it?
I am seriously considering writing to J.K. Rowling! So do they usually read it and write back? Or does she?
I want to know some things about Lord Voldemort, that only she, the brilliant creator of, can answer!
I Love Lord Voldemort!
PEOPLE!!! PLEAZE ANSWER!! Everyone on this page wants to know!!
Duh, Lord Voldemort for me! Whenever you read about him its like a chill washes over you and its always tense, creepy, and exciting! I LOVE LORD VOLDEMORT!
(I just have to put this!)
J.K. ROWLING, YOU ROCK!!!
So who do you enjoy reading about most? I suppose you could pick another character from Harry Potter... But first you have to pick Lord Voldemort or Harry!
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the half blooded prince. Why did J.K. Rowling have Harry and Ginny date for only one or two chapters? What was the point?
i want to make a story about some kids going to a wizard school but i don't know if that would be illegal since j.k. rowling made a story about a kid named harry going to a wizard school named hogwarts. could you be so kind and help me with my problem
~in the books, is Hogwarts really in Scotland?
Boquet, Tim. "J.K. Rowling: The Wizard Behind Harry Potter," Reader's Digest, December 2000
"...at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is housed in a remote Scottish castle..."
and what does JKR think of the college Quidditch Cup (held at Middlebury College) and teams (of muggles) that have popped up all over the place?
Any answer appreciated.
I'm writing a book and I need to know some magical creatures Ian can teach his tudents about. So far all I've got are Vampires (which I'm not going to use), Basilisks, Centaurs, Unicorns, Goblins, Elves, Griffins, Dragons, Nymphs, Faries, Pixies, and Pheonixes. I need some sort of sea creture. The best answers would be ones giving an extended list of creatures from greek mythology and european folk tale creatures who's names are spelled correctly. Please don't start giving me puffles and owls... I'm not asking for J. K. Rowling's made up creatures in Harry Potter, all right.
Also, if someone could explain a Griffin to me, that would be great!
ok now, lets be 100% honest, not not going by book sales, and other such stats, i want to talk about the actual quality of the books, ex how each other forms their,
plots,
characters,
writing styles,
and witting skill,
such as can their books pull you in? is the writing and sentence/page structure well/carefully formed and planned out, books that are written and scrutinized and taken upwards or half a year to write, or is just a book that was banged out in three months flat like S Meyer did with twilight.
so what are your opinions? long answers please!
btw( I was reading Harry Potter at fourth grade, and Stephen King at sixth, i tried twilight, but by p10 i think i was afraid of losing the brain cells i gained from reading King's books)
I don't understand - because J.K. Rowling put 10 kids in each year every year, and there's seven years. 10 times 7 is 70, which times 4 (4 houses) is 280. Am I missing something? 280 Kids, 70 kids in each house, 4 houses, 10 kids a year...?
Hey everyone
I was just wondering if you could recommend some books like these:
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling
The Lioness Rampage - Tamora Pierce
Graceling - Kristin Cashore
PLEASE no Twilight or Mortal Instruments series!
I'm looking for something with action and adventure, maybe fantasy, but also has a nice romance plot within it.
Also, does anyone know if Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series is any good?
I'm also looking for books like Melina Marchetta's (I've read them all), or something just really well written.
Preferably not thriller or horror, but they're okay. But it definitely needs romance :)
Okay everyone, thanks a lot!
10 points for best answer!!
Olivia

Thanks all i can think of now. Again, any help would be great.
I would really rather have a book that doesn't have a young immature main character if that's possible in fantasy.
I'm asking for a friend of mine. She likes:
The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer (but no other vampire books)
The Gemma Doyle trilogy (A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, The Sweet Far Thing) by Libba Bray
Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot
The Luxe series (The Luxe, Rumors, Envy) by Anna Godbersen
Anything by Shannon Hale (The Goose Girl, Princess Academy)
the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
She loves Historical fiction/ya romance, and sometimes likes the fantasy genre, general YA fiction, and classics too. She reads quickly, and loves to immerse herself in a great series or saga or else a long book, but quick chick lit reads are nice, too. Thanks so much!

I loved harry potter and would like to know if she is writing another series now that she has finish writing harry potter (even though i wish she would continue to write harry potter) also, does anyone else think she should write more harry potter books?
