-Joe's POV- I looked over to see Demi looking desperately at Selena who had her hand intertwined with Nick's. Sel mouthed "I'm sorry!" And ran off with him. She closed her eyes and looked down, clearly upset. I pulled her chin up. "I'm no Selena, but uh...you wanna um...be partners?" I appeared hopeful, I know. But being alone in a canoe on the lake seemed really romantic and I couldn't pass that up espiecially if it meant it would be another step closer to making Demi like me. She smiled. "Of course I want to be your partner! It's just I haven't spent any time with Selena yet. She's always off with Nick...but I guess I'll just see her later. Come on!" She grabbed my hand and we ran down to the last canoe. -Demi's POV- "WOW." We both said at the same time. The canoe was plastic and red and had duck tape practically covering it. Parts of the bottom and front were frayed and the paddles that came with it had some kind of intergalactic stain on them. We took them cautionously, already wearing life jackets, and pushed the canoe out into the water. As we got in, the canoe tilted more than it should, but stayed afloat-for now. We paddled down the river towards where everyone else was, but then Joe stopped about half way. "What's wrong?" I stopped paddling too and looked at him. He had a smile on his face. "Let's go somewhere else." "Joe...where would we go? We're in a canoe remember?" He laughed. "Just paddle towards that bunch of trees over there and don't ask questions smarty." I sighed and nodded then started towards them. The trees hung over the lake, covering whatever was beyond it. As we approached, I slowed a little bit, not wanting to ram into whatever was behind it. "Why'd you slow down? Come on! We're almost here!" "Joe, how do you know theres not a huge rock behind these leaves?" "I've been here before...last day of shooting me and my brothers decided to take a trip in one of these and we accidentally came across this place. Trust me." I smiled and nodded once more and continued towards it. As the leaves passed over our shoulders, I gasped at the site. Behind those trees was a cave, with a hole at the top letting in sunshine just enough for us to see the outlines of our bodies. It was amazing. Joe turned to me and smiled. "What'd I tell you?" I laughed and put my paddle down. This was so romantic...too bad nothing would ever come from it. If Joe liked me, he would've done something about it. I know Joe well enough to know that. He was probably just testing the place out to see what a girl's reaction would be so he would know what to expect for the next. I stared at the black water underneath us. "Alright Demster. What's wrong. I'm listening." I looked up to see him barely smiling at me. I rolled my eyes. "Nothing Joseph. But, uh...now what are we supposed to do in here anyway? If you haven't notice we're alone in a cave in a canoe at camp and we're not moving." We both laughed. "True," he said and moved closer to me. "But it was getting too crowded out there. And I like being alone with you. Only time I'm truely happy." I blushed and my heart sang. God, he knew how to charm a lady. "Good to know. But I have to ask ...who's the girl who's always on your mind?" He looked away and blushed. "How do you know there's someone on my mind? You psychic or what?" "So I am right!" I laughed and he turned back to me. "I'll tell you when I'm sure of...things." "What KIND of things?" I said teasingly. "Just things." He said moving his face closer to mine. "Well, I am your best friend so I do have the right to know who this special girl is, Jonas." "And I have the right to know who that special boy is." I blushed. "I'll tell you when I'm sure about things." I said mocking him. He laughed and held up a pinky. "Pinky promise?" "Joe. That's so first grade. Now we do this." I put my hand up and spit in it and held it out for a handshake. "Spit shake on it." I smiled. "You are so gross!" He said, laughing. Then sighed and did the same and we shook hands. "EW." We both said at the same time and washed off our hands in the lake water. "Well...I guess we should go now. They're probably wondering where we are anyway." I said, grabbing a paddle. "Yeah. But answer this one question first?" "Hmm?" He breathed heavily and prepared for his question. I was wondering how nervous he actually was, because he usually did well at hiding nervousness but it was written all over his face this time. "Demi," CLIFFHANGERRR. (:
